Compressor Discharge Pressure Problems

Symptom
Compressor Discharge Pressure Too High

Diagnosis
Non-condensables in system (nitrogen, oxygen, etcetera)

Solution
Identify cause; usually a leak to atmosphere

Diagnosis
System overcharged with refrigerant

Solution
Remove excess refrigerant

Diagnosis
Dirty condenser/receiver

Solution
Remove end caps and clean tubes

Diagnosis
Defective or improperly set water regulating valve

Solution
Set for proper operation (e.g. R507: 175 - 190 psig)

Diagnosis
Air in condenser/receiver water system

Solution
Vent air from system

Symptom
Compressor Discharge Pressure Too Low

Diagnosis
Low suction pressure

Solution
Lowest suction pressure should be adjusted to 24 - 25 inches Hg

Diagnosis
Shortage of refrigerant

Solution
Add sufficient refrigerant to eliminate bubbles in the sight glass

Diagnosis
Defective or improperly set water regulating valve

Solution
Set for proper operation (e.g. R507: 175 - 190 psig)
